Course Description:

The practice of brief therapy is not merely a condensed form of long-term therapy. This presentation will review the empirical, system, and client factors prompting the ever-increasing practice of brief treatment across a variety of treatment orientations. Key differences in values and foci of brief therapy vs. long-term therapy will be also be identified with particular attention to underserved populations. Finally, resources for training in brief therapy will be offered.

Participants Will:
- List two rationales for the origin of brief therapy.
- Discuss the concept of brief therapy by design vs. brief therapy by default.
- Describe two differences between the values of brief therapists vs. the values of long-term therapists.
